We do business with a purpose.

Our brand ethos

Action makes change.

But how do we measure actions?

Our fist challenge was finding a way of measuring everyday actions that make our world a better place. So we engaged in some pretty cool data science, sweated the numbers, cycled back to the drawing board more than a few times, and when the dust settled we had developed and patented an algorithm that takes inputs like impact, effort, & time and generates an XP point value for actions. In gaming vernacular XP is experience points, for us they would be Xocial Points. We could then take multiple actions with XP Points benchmarking their value, and through our algorithm assign an overall score to a bunch of actions. We call this overall impact metric the XO Score.

Great… we can measure an action. Now what?

Well, we needed a way to present an ecosystem that had a bunch of good things someone could do, in an environment that would inspire them to do these actions. So we switched gears from data science to game economy, and The Social Impact Games was born!

Time for a little Competitive Kindness!

The Social Impact Games is about inspiring positive impact. We work with all kinds of influencers, from teachers to sports legends to corporations, to develop impact games that move the needle on everything from character development, to UN Sustainability Goal action, to mental health, to developing empathy for others, to just plain acts of kindness.

Let’s do this!

Our values

Walk your talk.

We are a group of nice, dedicated Canadians who are using "business as a force for good". We want to give our families, our communities and our planet a better future and know that the only way to do that is to lead by example. That's why we work hard, dream big and believe in the power of kindness. We love what we do because we are passionate about our purpose. BTW, we are a Certified B Corporation and proud members of Pledge 1%, and the Upside Foundation.

Innovate through technology.

We believe "Social Innovation" can propel disruptive change. Technology, the use of social media platforms, the ability to connect to all humans across the globe gives us the unique opportunity to inspire and facilitate small acts of kindness and advocacy in a way that can actually change the world. But you can't fix what you can't measure, and that's why we're constantly thinking about creative ways to utilize technology to support and verify social & environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Community is everything.

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." - Helen Keller

Changing the world seems pretty overwhelming and complex to take on as a single individual or business. But if start with one small act of kindness or dedicate 1% of profits towards a greater cause, change can happen one act, one family, one community at a time.

We’ve only got one planet.

At the end of the day, we are all just visitors on this planet for a very short time, and we must act now to save it for our children, and the generations of humans to follow.

Love over hate.

This one is pretty straightforward.

We condemn hate of any kind. Period.

Our Story

We just wanted to make the world suck a whole lot less.

It all started when a couple of tech entrepreneurs from Ontario Canada — founders, Colin Duetta and Michael Salvatori — decided to go for a couple of beers with Jeff Teal, their corporate lawyer. Recent young fathers, the conversation went from diapers & daycare to the world of social media and how social technology was being used as a popularity contest.

Crappy stuff like bullying, racism, intolerance and hate was prevalent on social media and the web in general. That naturally transitioned into…why can’t we recognize and reward positive stuff?

It was decided then and there, there has to be a way to use technology for good.

That’s when it dawned on them… instead of measuring popularity, what if we measured positive social impact? They scratch out that initial concept on a napkin (for real we still have it) that tracked a lad named Jonny through his day, picking up do-gooder points as he went.

Could we actually measure doing good? Because if we can measure it, that means we can compete with each other to see who can do the most good — and the idea for The Social Impact Games, as an online gaming platform that inspires, measures and rewards positive actions was born.

Our Journey

The rise of ‘Competitive Kindness ®’

Over the years we’ve worked with companies, charities, schools, hospitals, offices, hockey teams, and neighbourhood groups to create engaging Competitive Kindness® impact games, inspiring audiences to make a difference. We’re talking random acts of kindness, going above and beyond, selfless favours, caring about the environment, volunteering time, showing generosity and much more. 100s of thousands of Competitive Kindness® challenges have been completed all over world with participation from NHL Hall of Famers and NBA stars to brands like Porter Novelli, Loop and Arbonne.

Providing ‘Rewards for Doing Good™’

Instead of thumbs ups or likes, we designed our social impact challenges with “XP” (xocial points) to measure effort based on time and impact to complete the challenge ( pick up trash 5XP vs. give blood 60XP). The higher the impact, the higher the “XO score” (a patented algorithm measurement of overall positive social impact). Combined with leaderboards and reward features, all participants were able to track the action and engage in some friendly and feel-good competition.

Joining a global economy that uses business as a force for good.

It’s important to us that we lead by example and practice what we preach and that’s why we were extremely proud to join the 3,000+ companies worldwide as a Certified B Corporation. To truly make an impact, we knew that we needed to join this global economy that uses business as a force for good, setting social and environmental standards in the way we do business.

We are also proud members of Pledge1% and the Upside Foundation.

Getting down to business for the social good.

Life is precious and we only have one planet. Love is a human right and hate enslaves us all. One person CAN change the world and we all have the opportunity to use our individual power for good.

The time for REAL ACTION is now. To truly empower changemakers, we need to give brands, organizations and communities the ability to not only ACT but MEASURE and COMPARE their social impact.
